Buyer beware - a lot of the cheap filters for sale on Trade Me are old slow technology and are not full speed ADSL2+ and most of them are not tested and approved for use in NZ! Old filters will slow your connection. If the filter doesn't have a green tick sticker with ADSL2+ on the sticker then it is not an ADSL2+ filter that has been approved for use in NZ.

ADSL2+ is the latest spec. ADSL that Telecom (and others) are deploying right now! ADSL2+ with theoretical maximum speeds of 24 Mbits/s is the standard that the exchanges and roadside cabinets are being upgraded to. 80% of broadband users will have ADSL2+ by the end of 2011 according to Telecom Wholesale.

In order to have your ADSL running at top speed you MUST have compatible filters and a modern router. The ISP's are giving away routers - get your filters here! Every device that is connected to a jackpoint should be running through a quality telepermitted filter. These filters have been tested and certified and have the green Telepermit tick sticker as your assurance of quality. Most cheap filters on Trade Me have not been tested and Telepermitted and most are not to the ADSL2+ standard. Quality filters are one of the important building blocks to obtaining good ADSL speed: the others are a modern modem/router set to ADSL2+ standards, good internal cabling and a modern computer with up to date software. Because of these variables I cannot guarantee that these filters will solve all of your problems (if you having problems) but you cannot get the rest of the equipment to work properly without them!
