My half sloper is for 160 meter operation where space is limited, Naturally it will not be as good a a full size 160 meter antenna which is about 260 feet long, but this will get you on the band with good results and minimum trouble. Mounted in a tree or on a wooden mast you need to run a wire down to an earth stake or pipe to connect a short earthing wire to. Oddly enough a high quality earthing arrangement seems to work almost the same as a simple earthing rod or pipe driven well down into the grounds surface.Should you have a tower or even a fully metal mast you can connect the short earthing wire directly to the metal near the top of the antenna.( No seperate earth pipe required ).
The radiating element now runs down but at an angle of 45 degrees or so.
This element is cut to 75 feet long which will probably be a little long to load correctly and will need pruning to approximately 68 feet. Prune a foot or so at a time to start with but be careful when close to 68 ft as every installation is a little different, however usually it is close to 68 feet long when finished.
If you are lucky enough to be able to slope the antenna in the direction of dx signals, you will find this antenna will do a very good job for you as well as getting you around NZ AND VK for many QSO'S.
Slopers are renowned by hams all over the world as a much favoured dx antenna and this one is commonly used in the US by qrp experimenters.
