NZ DESIGNER GLASS PLATE - TANGAROA

This auction is for the glass plate in the photo.

20cm x 20cm

Made by a small glass studio producing New Zealand glassware with a Maori flavour. They produce glass platters using the well known art form of fusing and slumping. The technique they use sandwiches the design of "onglaze powder" between two pieces of clear glass, which is then fused together at high temperature. The transparency of the top layer lends the design depth and enhances the vibrancy of each colour.
The result is stunning.


Tangaroa (sea god)
This design is an interpretation on the genesis of the sea wave. Generated by the powerful sea god Tangaroa, the power of the wave is hidden beneath the water as a sea swell until it hits the shore in its final expression as the wave.
