Tibetan mala with imitation amber beads (real one would cost thousands). From Nepal. Made by Tibetans. Hand chosen by a Tibetan monk living in Boudanath. Each string has 108 beads. Approx. 41 cm in length if you hold the mala and hang from your hand (so if it were one long string it would be 82 cm).

In Tibetan Buddhism 'mantras and chants are typically repeated hundreds or even thousands of times. The mala is used so that one can focus on the meaning or sound of the mantra rather than counting its repetitions. One repetition is usually said for each bead while turning the thumb clockwise around each bead.'
