Pre-constructed pillar made from Paradise Stone, originating in Whangarei, Northland - often referred to as Northland Oceanic Schist as compared to the more common alpine schist type varieties.

Technically a sedimentary limestone comprising of tiny particles of fragments of ancient coral, mollusc and crustacean shells compacted down over time. Each sedimentary layer contained in a block of Paradise Stone is a layer of what was once Ocean floor, 30 million years ago when all of Whangarei was a giant tropical basin.

The layered lines, likened to the grains in timber, the natural earthy colours provide both texture and contrast like no other found in a New Zealand stone. Totally at home in the Northern landscape, choose a stone that looks like it belongs there and blends with the surrounding environment particularly coastal developments.

This auction is for one pre-constructed pillar, skilfully handcrafted by our experienced in-house stonemasons. It is 1200mm high, 450mm square and capped on top. A removable centre cap reveals a hidden lifting eye to enable you to place the pillar in your location.

The pillar is fixed, to a pre-cast concrete foundation, 550mm square, 75mm thick. It has rebar steel stirrups inside the pillar leading down into corners of the base. The pillar and base weigh about a ton.
