Grow your own macadamia nut trees - 25 macadamias FRESH off the tree organic seed nuts for $8 (FREE POSTAGE)
More available - please ask.
I have had excellent results with germinating these nuts directly in the ground. I simply place the freshly fallen nuts in the vege garden (I even leave the shell on), water and cover with soil and bingo! In spring there are a lovely lot of sprouted little macadamia nut trees for me to dig up and put in pots till ready to plant out.
I have had these trees produce nuts in 5 years in ideal conditions and the rest were producing at 6 or 7 years. They have proven to be hardy and disease resistant but they do not like their feet wet or prevailing winds. or hard frosts
I am not sure which variety the tree is but it is at least 50 years old and never had problems with self polinating. It drops the big nuts (which is better than having to pick them) and has huge crops which are soooo sweet and absolute gold.
These nuts germinate easily and often any ones I miss under the tree are sprouted and growing.
Please note: only fresh nuts will sprout - these nuts will be collected and sent the same day. Nuts that are ready to eat (rattle in shell) will not sprout. Some varieties of nuts will need polinators - this variety does not.
