•SMALL TARO PLANT UP TO 25CM TALL = $5.00
•BIG TARO PLANT UP TO 60CM TALL - $7.00
•PICK UP FROM FORREST HILL, NORTH SHORE.
I use the leaves (baby leaves) mainly for cooking but haven't got any taro corm yet. A special island way of planting taro plant to be able to get a good size corm.
•The leaves and taro meat/roots are very nutritious and it’s tender and have a great flavour.
•A combination of baby leaves (which are the newer or the ones that just come out still fresh and soft) with some meat will make a very nice complete meal.
Taro is the source of a common food in the Islands (like the potatoes here) food made from cooked ground Taro corm (root) and young leaves.
•Taro corm can be cooked either boil or bake in the oven or in the umu, island style. One of the Islands or Samoan favorate food/recipe is the “Fa'alifu Taro” boil taro corm and coconut cream with salt, pepper and onions.
•The leaves must be cooked in salt and water for at least 20mins so the leaves can be well cooked and break down nicely and soft to get rid of the itch, caused by calcium crystals.
•“Luau/Palusami” a well-known Island or Samoan food/recipe – 5-6 baby leaves (depends on how big you want), coconut cream, pepper, onion and salt wrap with tin foil ready to bake in the oven. Island style, using banana and breadfruit leaves to wrap them ready to bake in the umu
•They need to be planted in a wet well drained soil.
Payment within 3 days of close of auction please.
