LT is cultivated as an ornamental plant for its copious orange blossom spikes and accent or screening qualities for use in gardens and parks. It is a moderate drought tolerant plant, and a nectar source for birds and butterflies in landscape settings.Lion's-tail is a South African plant, in warmer regions it can be planted out in the garden or kept in tub to be moved inside in colder arias.The wild dagga flowers profusely in late spring to autumn, (further south a bit later). With its characteristic bright orange flowers carried in compact clusters in whorls along the flower stalk. It really is a looker!Plant in full sun, as it will not flower in the shade. Terrific for cutting, and attractive to insects. A plant for attracting wildlife to your garden as the flowers profuse copious nectar which attracts birds, bees and butterflies. The wild dagga is fast growing and is semi frost hardy. It prefers a dry soil and is drought-resistant. Water deeply and infrequently.It is very easy to grow but will do best in well drained loamy soils with plenty of compost added. Plants should be cut right back at the end of winter. Externally, it is often used for hemorrhoids, eczema, skin rashes and boils. The dried leaves and flowers have a mild calming effect when smoked. In some users, the effects have been noted to be similar to the cannabinoid THC found in Cannabis, except that it is has a much less potent high.
