- Listing #: 255014184
In each packet you will get a heaped spoon of seeds which is between 500-700 seeds.
This particular Poppy has been in our garden at Akaroa since the late 1800's.
It has been growing and self planting so the strain is strong and pure.
The flowers are a deep red with very dark maroon cross, almost black. In order to get the true colours (scarlet and near black, you will need to take good care of them) - Acidic soil is the way to go, maybe some Mushroom compost or peat and not too much water.
They are spectacular looking flowers which give medium pods.
They attract bees like crazy !!
It is best to plant these where you want them to grow.
Transplanting can be done from seed trays but the poppies tap root grows very long, fast. This root cant be disturbed. If it is the plant will be stunted.
The best trays to plant in are the singular plug trays.
Thin the poppies out as they grow and you can get up to 12-36 pods per plant (seriously... this is an incredible strain when cared for properly).
While obviously I cant guarantee you will get these results, you have a far higher chance of replicating them by using this seed and following the conditions that they were grown in.
Feel free to ask any questions you'd like !
I also have mutant Reds (I got 86 pods off one plant !), Tasmanian Giants, and my own hybrid Pink Giant ! Check out my other auctions for these.
