The Red and Yellow Admiral butterflies are far less common now than in years gone by, especially in our towns and cities. WHY? - No nettles!! Nettles are the ONLY plants that play host to the caterpillars of these gorgeous butterflies. (The first photo shown is of a Yellow Admiral on a Dahlia flower)

Many gardeners spray or weed out nettles from their gardens, leaving the Admirals nowhere to lay their eggs. Plant a small patch now and do your bit to bring these lovely creatures back into our gardens.

Nettles make great herbal tea as well. Look them up on google for great health imparting benefits. If you get stung on a stinging nettle, use a dock leaf to ease the sting.
