Growing garden herbs around the house will enrich your life. Once established, you'll wonder how you ever managed without the herb garden!
Be imaginative with your herbs and position them all over the garden, by the back door, on the windowsills. Wherever you can find a reasonable place, plant a herb or two!
It's useful to have herbs in pots in the kitchen if you have the space, or in windowboxes.
Growing parsley is easy.
Parsley has traditionally been used as a garnish to decorate a meal. But parsley is one of the most under-used plants in the herb garden. It is very high in vitamin C content (gram for gram parsley contains more vitamin C than citrus fruits! ) and also is rich in iron and other vitamins and minerals.
Parsley freshens your breath and should surely be included in all herb gardens!
Parsley likes to grow in full sun and rich soil. It will tolerate some shade but the soil will need to be even richer to make up for the lack of sun.
Parsley can be successfully grown in pots. Keep in a very sunny position and make sure the container is well-drained, and kept well watered.
Parsley has long been used as a garnish to pretty up a meal. And it works very well! It can also be used as a vegetable - put sprigs into soups and stews, or cook with the cabbage or other green veg. Or chop parsley and use to make sauces and flavoured butter. A perfect addition to garlic butter
Italian Parsley
This is the most flavorful of all Parsleys and a natural breath freshener. An excellent companion plant, Parsley is reputed to improve the scent and health of nearby roses and to aid the growth of tomatoes and asparagus.
Large plants with thick stalks and large quantity of flat, glossy dark green leaves with a strong parsley flavour more pungent than curled types. Stiff, upright stems good for bunching. Preferred for most Italian dishes.
