Pimpinella anisum. Anise should be grown in every home garden for ornamental and border effect. The very sweet licorice-like flavour of the seeds and leaves make a comforting tea that is sometimes used as a treatment for asthma and bronchitus. The feathery foliage can be added to salads and soups--and seeds are used to flavour baked goods, salads, poultry and candies. Sow where they are to grow after all danger of frost has past. Grows to 50cm tall. Annual.
