Lettuce Webbs Wonderful .Clarence Webb was a noted horticulturist from Kendal, Cumbria in England, who was very interested in producing improved varieties of flowers and vegetables. During the food shortages of the First World War he worked to promote allotments for people to grow their own food. Lettuce Webb's Wonderful is still the premier garden lettuce in many people's vegetable patch. It has large, wrinkled leaves with a big tight centre of crisp, white leaf. This crisphead type lettuce is a very reliable performer, outstanding whether the summer is wet or dry and always slow to run to seed. Seeds germinate freely in seed raising mix in 5-8 days.
