Description
My name is Chris O'Regan and I am a metal smith working in the Celtic tradition. This work is from an original drawing influenced by the triskele. The triskele is based on the number 3 (an important number frequently found in Celtic Art and Myth). To me this work shows Life,it’s new Beginnings and the Journey you take down these paths. A resist is applied of the pattern to the copper,so when it is etched in acid,a bottom layer is eaten away and a top layer is left where no copper is dissolved. The piece is then dipped into a chemical liquid that turns it entirely black, permanently. It is sanded with sandpaper stripping the patination off the top layer revealing the copper but leaving it black on the lower surface. This piece is handcrafted, individually etched and patinated (chemically coloured) by myself and so each work is unique. The copper is finished with a clear acrylic spray to protect the work and fitted with an Antiqued brass plated brooch pin with a simple hook-in clasp. Comes with a card with a description of the work and how it is made. Made from recycled copper
