This Hei Matou is a contemporary representation of a traditional and practical piece.

The Hei Matou represents strength and prosperity and provides safe travels over water.

This piece is made from beautiful kawakawa from the Arahura river. It exhibits great translucency and a breathtaking depth of colour.

Made by myself, Ben Rewa, a Maori pounamu carver based in Queenstown. The stone for this piece was sourced from the Rimu area.
