What goes into the manufacture of a Custom Redback Gear Knob?
Custom Redback Gear Knobs are made from a High Quality Jewellery Polyester Resin, meaning they are very hard and polish to a very high reflectance. Each knob has a 16mmx1.5 Brass Thread Master embedded during manufacture. This master can then have a range of thread reducers inserted to suit many different applications from cars, boats, machinery, aeroplanes etc, just about anywhere a knob is used.
Embedding The Australian Redback Spider successfully has proven to be a difficult task, accomplished properly by very few people. The fragile body of the spider creates many difficulties. The spiders body is highly elastic enabling it to consume a very large meal and swell considerably in size overnight. This elasticity means every step of the preservation process must meet certain specific requirements. The spiders colour, especially the red stripe is a living pigment and dies along with the spider. As a result of this each spider is inked with a high quality enamel based ink to preserve its colour. The red stripe is added by hand using a high quality paint. This technique ensures your Custom Redback Gear Knob will keep fantastic colour for a very long time. At Custom Redback we use a large range of pigments to colour the polyester resin, these pigments are available as solid colours or pearl. We also now have a range of metallic fleck additives, the same kind as used to finish show cars.
