The Provenience - The first person to own these plates was New Zealand multi-millionaire businessman / property developer David Blackmore. He bought these plates when personalised plates were first released in 1987. They were then acquired by Megaupload founder Kim Dotcom circa 2010. I bought these plates from him in early 2011. On the 31 July 2011 I listed the plates on Trademe and the rest is history. That first auction is quoted by Wikipedia as one of Trademe's most notable auctions of all time and at the time was Trademe’s 17th most viewed auction ever. It was widely reported in the media
The plate has transcended the plates market and has become an very collectable piece of New Zealand memorabilia
The auctions I have run have had around 2800 questions (seems like more to me) and "The public debate in regard to this plate has meant it has become an important symbol of New Zealand and who we are, now & in the future.” A quote from one of the questions asked
The asking price for the plates reflects its uniqueness, it’s history and its relevance to this country and it’s people
The plates have been made, Included in the price is a plate for a hand over photograph that the press maybe interested in. Of course I will respect confidentiality if the buyer requests to stay anonymous.
Includes GST
This auction is for the lawful entitled to these plates. i.e. the legal right to have these plates made or remade and put on your vehicle and driven on New Zealand roads. (or just held as an investment)
