This T10 LED bulb has 12 LED SMD chips arranged on one side. It is a good replacement for a 15-20 watt halogen.

They are rugged, virtually shockproof (solid-state) and resistant to damage from cycling (i.e. switching on and off - which wears out other lighting technologies). Due to this they last significantly longer than standard incandescent or fluorescent bulbs.
