1954 AJS Project
Bought this earlier this year. Got the project underway but sadly need to sell to pay for damage to my Norton Dominator Model 7. Foreign tourists on wrong side of road who failed to stop!! (anyone got a spare right headlight bracket?).
Have mounted motor & gearbox in frame. Motor turns over fine with good compression, gears all shift. Have never had running but was assured this was a very good runner.
I was going to put this back together as a bike with nice patina rather than a full restoration as all tinware is in such good condition. Fuel tank looks great but has some surface rust inside so would need a clean before use. Mag, dyno & reg all tested and bearings replaced. Wheel rims very average but I was going to have them sandblasted and painted or powder coated silver. Chronometric speedo is there but would need rebuild (in miles not km's). Has the hard to find alloy competition guards.
I went through all parts and identified what is missing to complete:
Mainstand & spring (sidestand is there)
Front wheel bearings
Front brake actuator
Front spokes
Front brake shoe springs
Front footpeg mounting bolt
Main chain and dyno chain
Gearbox adjuster
Headlight
Throttle
New clutch plates
Clutch lever and cable
I think that’s all but I may have missed something or you may wish to change something. This bike could be up and running again for little expense or effort, or it’s substantially there for a a great resto base. Last 2 photos show bike with several of the parts loosely assembled.
No WOF or reg. Would need revinning.
1 week only auction. If not sold I will be parting out. Worth a lot more as parts as quality of these parts is so good.
Good luck!
