In the Summer of 1975, inspired by the success of Island Records, Virgin Records began its first foray into Reggae music. By 1978, and a few holidays in the sun later, Branson & Co. had managed to establish a formidable roster of Reggae artists. Under the umbrella of the Front Line label, the next few years saw the release of over 40 original artist albums featuring the talents of now reggae legends such as Sly Dunbar, Mighty Diamonds, The Gladiators, U-Roy, Tapper Zukie and Gregory Isaacs

The Front Line label established with Virgin Records a strong tradition of releasing high quality Reggae music and this series, along with a selection of the best reggae from EMI's vaults, collects together the best of what made The Front Line and Virgin's reggae output so special. From the Rasta skank of U Roy, to the smooth tones of Gregory Isaacs to the infectious rhythms of Sly Dunbar, the best of the early label output is fully represented in a series of re-issued comprehensive compilation albums.
