The Cornet for Trumpet players

The Cornet is a very similar instrument to the Trumpet, from the same brass family one of the smallest yet highest instruments of the Brass types. The Trumpet and Cornet do not differ much in specs, though appear slightly different with the Trumpet looking longer and leaner than the Cornet which has a more bell cone shaped bore. It is becoming more popular for kids to play the Cornet as this is easier to hold and play for smaller hands making this ideal for young children to learn before the Trumpet.

In old style jazz bands, the cornet was preferred to the trumpet, but from the swing era onwards it has been largely replaced by the trumpet. The cornet is now largely a brass band instrument.
