A very nice, tho not 'collector perfect', example of this iconic American guitar of the 1960s. The Bobkat was made in the many thousands by the Harmony Guitar Co, Chicago. The H15 and its variations were sold under the Silvertone, Airline, Holiday labels thru US chain stores.
The real stars here are the two DeArmond designed Golden Tone 'S-grille' pickups. These are beautiful looking and sounding single coil pickups. They are much sort after and have great response and tone. Plenty of info on these on the net. These two are in wonderful shape and sound fantastic!
The guitar is in good nick, a few dings and scrapes but is structurally sound. Frets are very good, neck is straight, intonation good and the action is low and very playable. The electrics are original, untouched and all work perfectly.
The only issues really are:
1) the pick guard is chipped at the two forward tips but held in place by the screws. (These can be replaced with modern replicas available on Ebay for US$ 30 + postage. Perfect fit with all holes in the right place) but this has the date stamp tho' so I left it, chips and all.
2) there is a ferrule missing off the A string tuner. I will be getting more of these but they come from the US so will take a while.
The only non-stock alterations are:
1) the neck has been sanded to give a slightly flatter, thinner profile and stained a dark brown. They did a good job and the neck feels real good in your hand.
2) a thin metal 'zero fret' was installed. Gives the guitar extra bite and does not change the 24" scale length.
I see both mods as positive to the gats usability and sound.
A cool guitar and a joy to play.
