Ancient Kauri is between 20,000 and 45,000 years old. It is salvaged from peat swamps where it has been preserved by the moisture in the peat for thousands of years. It hasn't petrified nor has it turned to coal. It is the oldest workable timber in the world, predating the Ice Age and the existence of Mankind !
