Unique "Herculean" Strat made in Wellington by Weta Guitars at the old Island Bay shop which is now the Empire cinema. I've had this guitar for a number of years (I wasn't the first owner) and have messed around with it a bit. It has been repainted (not a pro job but looks cool in a DIY kind of way - paint is scuffed off in a few places from playing and polishing), original pickups replaced with Fender '57/'62 pickups from a 2009 American Vintage Reissue Stratocaster (the Weta originally had active EMG pickups that I wasn't into at all!) and upgraded to Kluson vintage type tuning keys by the guy who owned it before me.
The guitar is well played and carries a few battle scars but nothing serious. I have just set it up with 10-46 gauge strings with a nice low-ish action. Although it's playing beautifully, I reckon the Weta guys would be keen to have one of their old babies back for a service. They will cry when they see the paint job!
This guitar is HEAVY! I think it has an ash body and it weighs about as much as a Les Paul. The neck is a very middle-of-the-road Fender shape and should feel familiar to a Strat player and the frets are a vintage size. Really nice to play and has a solid tone which is warmer and louder than my Fender.
I have too many guitars. That's why I'm selling this one.
Couple of little things to mention:
- no tremolo arm (lost it, sorry)
- Is currently wired with a single master tone control (the 2nd tone knob does nothing)
Happy bidding!
