Description
This is an extremely high quality piano that will appeal to any very serious pianist. Grotrian Steinweg were the parent company of the famous New York Steinway. This piano was made in 1910 with serial number 23239. The height is 1.35m, width 1.5m and it is model 4 (their largest upright I believe). The incredibly ornate artwork on the plate, along with the refinement of every part of the action indicates that this piano was a special one, built by their very best craftsmen, probably made as a show-piece for one of those great exhibitions. I have re-strung the treble strings, using new pins, and restored the original bass ones. I have fitted new Abel hammers and dampers. I have restored the soundboard and plate. I have restored the casework finishing it in a very attractive Danish oil. I have carefully regulated the action and tuned it to A440. The unique Grotrian crossed-frame (see photo) ensures tuning stability. All replacement materials are of the best quality. This piano is absolutely stunning to play. The tone is rich, the touch is lovely, and the action is wonderfully responsive. There is plenty of power when needed, and the pianissimo is breath-taking.
