Please read comments at bottom. This may or may not be the real deal. This is a rare opportunity. I am selling this violin on behalf of Josef Holub. He is a Roma Gypsy from the Czech republic who moved to NZ in 2000 and now lives in Ranui. He speaks very little English. I get accordion lessons off Josef regularly and he asked me if I could help him sell this violin. It belonged to his grandfather and has been in his family for years. He brought it here with him when he immigrated. Sadly Josefs health is not the best and he can no longer play much violin. He is in need of money so this rare violin has to go. He wants it to go to a good home where it will be played regularly. It is nearly 400 years old. The inscription on the inside says "Giovanni Paulo Megri a Brescia 1617". The back is made of European Maple and the Top Spruce. I do not know much about violins, however, Josef has informed me that only original Maggini violins have 2 sets of double black lines around the edges on the top and bottom. The photos show that this is the case. The instrument sounds very good and I will be getting a friend to play it and posting that on youtube so prospective buyers can see and hear the instrument in action. I will post a link in the additional comments section in due course. Violin comes with original case and a bow (not original). Josef claims this violin is valued at around $10,000 but he simply needs the money so will take considerably less.
