Description
JANIS: The Way She Was - A Film (DVD (1974)
Originally released within five years of Janis Joplin's tragic death in 1970, this documentary is more celebration than investigation. But, the film provides ample opportunity to read between the lines in various interviews, rehearsals & state performances & to understand something of the sadness that persisted beneath Joplin's brash exuberance.
This documentary uses interviews & rare concert footage to reveal Janis Joplin's life philosophy & attitudes. This is not one of those shitty music doco's with boring voice-over and cut songs but pure Janis from beginning to end, there is no better DVD of the woman than this. It traces the blues singer from childhood, through her performances with Big Brother & The Holding Co. at the Monterey Pop Festival, to superstardom after Woodstock. Contains 14 songs including "Piece of My Heart," "Me & Bobby McGee," "Tell Mama," "Summertime" & "Ball & Chain."
Sound: PCM Stereo (Remastered sound & vision) Region: All Running Time: 1 Hour 36 Minutes
