Why is a harness better than a collar?

A harness is becoming much more widely used (over a collar) as an alternative for leash attachment. A collar only encircles the neck, whereas a harness has a loop that surrounds the torso as well, with connecting straps between them for reinforcement.

This design allows for distribution of force which may prevent choking, neck injury, and improve posture while exercising (which prevents injury) and a pup has a much lower chance of slipping out than may be possible with only a collar.
