Description
Kelston Potteries “Astra” Pattern 4 Cups & Saucers. The Tulip cups are 7cm tall by 9cm in diameter. The saucers are 2.5cm tall by 14.5cm in diameter. Circa 1960s
All of these items have been made from a moulded earthenware base, which have then been covered in a clear glaze. Once the glaze has dried a complex transfer pattern in green has been applied to the tops of the cups, and around the edges of the saucers.
Two cups have a few tiny scratch marks on the inside which have browned. A third has a few tiny blemish marks on the bottom of the cup. The fourth is in perfect condition. All the saucers have light wear to the top as well as minor crazing on both sides.
Crown Lynn was a major pottery manufacturer in New Zealand between 1854 and 1989. I believe that these cups & saucers were produced in the late 1960’s or early 1970’s. They are fantastic items of pottery and would look great either in domestic use or in someone’s Crown Lynn collection.
