Titania, Queen of the fairies, is the inspiration behind Royal Doulton’s Titanian Ware. The delicate tints, shimmering glaze and egg-shell thin bone china body conjured up ‘fairyland on china’ according to the booklet extolling its virtues. The name Titanian is also derived from Titanium oxide which was used to create the ethereal blue ground, ideal for the painting of birds, fish and flowers. Charles Noke spent many years perfecting Titanian ware and it was launched in 1915.
