Payments and your account

There are a few ways to receive payments for trades:

Pay Now

Pay Now is our in-house card payments system. It’s fast, safe and a recommended payment method for buying.

Buyers use a debit or credit card to pay for goods through Trade Me, into your Pay Now account. If you have more than 10 feedback you can register for Pay Now.

Bank deposit

Buyers deposit the payment directly into your bank account.This can be done via internet banking, phone banking or at a local branch.

Cash

This option is ideal if you allow pick-ups. It’s not recommended for buyers to send cash via post.

Ping

Ping is our new instant payment system which will eventually replace Pay Now. Ping will enable you to pay via credit/debit card, bank transfer, or your Ping balance.

We’re testing Ping with a bunch of members at the moment, and you can keep an eye out on the site announcements for updates.

My Trade Me

Your My Trade Me is the place to go to oversee all your trades. There you’ll find quick links to the items you’re selling, the items you’ve sold, your unsold items, and you can set up My Products.

You can check out your Trade Me account statement to keep an eye on your transactions, and your Pay Now account statement if you’re registered to receive payment this way.

  

  

FAQs

What can I use the money in my Trade Me account for?
Your Trade Me account credit can only be used to pay for listing and success fees, not for buying things.

A buyer wants to pay me  via Moneygram or Western Union – is this okay?
If this happens to you, please contact us immediately. These payment methods are commonly used in scams as they are untraceable payment methods.

A buyer has used Pay Now, however the funds aren’t showing in my account. Should I still send the item?
Please wait till you receive the email from us saying the payment has gone through smoothly and that you can release the goods. If you haven’t heard from us, touch base with the team for more information.

Why have my listings disappeared from My Trade Me?
Listings only stay in your My Trade Me folders for 45 days after they close. After this date they’re archived permanently. Be sure to relist or sort out all your listings before then so that you don’t run in any problems.
