Why is this cross trainer twice the price of others on Trade Me?
Cross Trainers are not all created equal - there are vast differences between machines sourced from generic manufacturers in Asia, and those from known fitness manufacturers such as Proform and NordicTrack, who have over 25 years experience.
Frame -
The steel gauge and tubing diameter used will drastically effect both longevity and stability while in use. The thicker and heavier the better. Cheaply constructed units are also hand welded as opposed to robotic welding - the chances of misalignment is high, quality control is not assured.
Linkage points -
Cross Trainers are very mechanical machines, with a lot of linkage points subjected to the weight of the human body while under rotation. The components used need to be of a high standard, good enough to handle this loading and rotation over time, ie. Bearings versus cheap plastic bushes.
Biomechanic action -
How closely does an exercise replicate natural human movement? If youre going to perform an exercise regularly, it needs to be as close to natural as possible - this helps avoid injury.
The best biomechanic action is achieved when:
- the feet are close together
- the hips remain stable during rotation
- the body remains upright, not leant forward
