This is an excellent quality copy of the famous 1801 Baker Rifle as used by the legendary 95th Rifles in the Napoleonic Wars - as mentioned in the Sharpes novels and TV series.
This rifle won the New Zealand Antique Arms National Flintlock Rifle Event in 2002
and, last weekend, won the Auckland Branch Trophy Shoot 2008.
Barrel is in-the-white with controlled rusting to give it a nice aged patina. Even the sling looks the right age for the gun.
Some usage marks on the wood but just adds to the overall museum piece appearance. I have owned it 6 years and acquired it off a fellow enthusiast.
Made in 58 cal as opposed to the original Baker Rifle's .62 cal. so projectiles and moulds are more readily available.
R/h twist of 1 in 70". 8 grooves.
Patent Breech. Overall barrel length is 30".
Bore dimension is 0.577" and groove is 0.595".
There is a platinum inspection screw opposite the touch hole.
3- leaf sights for 100, 200 and 300 yds.
Spare flint & set of tools which stow in patch box incl. knapping chisel, touch-hole pricker & pan brush.
The successful bidder will be provided with load date and initiated into the secret loading ritual.

I used to be able to do at 100 yards what I can now only do at 50 yards with this gun.
(See 50 yard target used for sighting in last week).
Ageing eyesight decrees that I have to move to a flintlock rifle with aperture sights to remain competitive. In the hands of someone with younger eyes this rifle can remain very competitive.

Most original Baker Rifles are in museums. Several replicas are available but not all are meant for serious shooting. Best available are from The Rifle Shoppe but cost approx. $US $2000 and 6 month wait.
Kitset costs approx. $US 1000 and you still have to build it.
This rifle is ready to shoot (competitively) NOW and is priced appropriately.

Bidders must have appropriate licence.

Happy Bidding.
