Umpass-stay is a bulky greenish-skinned creature with a leathery-looking bulldog-like face and a head-doily. A Klatooinian serving as one of the Jabba the Hutts thugs, Umpass-stays gong accessory indicates his superfluous presence among the Max Rebo Band retinue. Such preparations were made in the wake of a previous musician-staged attempt to assassinate Jabba.

Umpass-stay was born into slavery, his family attached to the Desilijic Hutt Clan. Umpass-stay apparently served as a bodyguard to Shebba the Hutt before entering the service of Shebbas nephew, Jabba the Hutt. Umpass-stay was ordered to remain at the palace during the Hutts skiff-borne journey to the Pit of Carcoon, and for this reason, Umpass-stay avoided the fate that befell most of Jabbas in-field personnel while simultaneously leaving Jabbas service in favor of some other Hutt
