Johnny Lightning is a brand of model cars originally produced by Topper Toys, similar to the hugely successful Mattel Hot Wheels die cast racing cars.

Tom Lowe and his Playing Mantis company acquired the rights to the Johnny Lightning trademark and started producing reproductions of the original cars in 1994.

In 2005, Playing Mantis was bought by RC2 Corporation and Playing Mantis disappeared.

In 2013 Tomy Toys announced it will no longer produce the Johnny Lightning brand and was discontinued.
