The A1 Grand Prix was in theory going to be motorsport phenomenon.

It was an entirely new motor sport - The World Cup of Motorsport.

Pitting driver against driver and country against country for the first time.

A1 Grand Prix brought together 22 nations representing 80 percent of the world's populations to compete on a level playing field.

Each meeting features two events - a sprint race and a longer feature race.

The series launched in 2005, with all cars using Lola chassis powered by a light but very powerful 3.4 litre V8 Zytek engine.

Team France won the inaugural 2005/06 A1GP season with a remarkable 13 race wins.

Four different drivers represented the Team in the 2007/08 series finishing 4th after a late charge from Team Great Britain at Brands Hatch.

The A1GP series ran from 2005 - 2009 when it was put into liquidation.
