This is an amazing opportunity to accompany DOC on one of their trips to Resolution Island, Dusky Sound, Fiordland.

This is a rare chance to visit the remote world heritage south west corner of New Zealand to cruise the beautiful fiords, and explore areas that few people get a chance to witness.

Resolution Island is a 20,800 ha island in outer Dusky Sound on which the Department of Conservation (DOC) has almost completed one of the most ambitious predator control programmes on the island in New Zealand.

Resolution Island is now rat, mice and possum free and an extensive trapping has reduced stoat to very low levels. Only a handful of deer remain.

The outcome of this predator control means that Resolution Island will become the largest predator controlled island in New Zealand and provide a huge amount of habitat for thousands of New Zealand’s endangered and native species.

DOC runs regular trips to Dusky Sound to check and bait the traps which are run from the comfortable DOC vessel ‘Southern Winds’ and they are offering a chance for someone to join their team on one of these amazing trips between the
13th-20th November 2012.

The successful person must have an aptitude for being on a boat as the trip does involve travel in the outer ocean.

A high level of fitness is also required as the trip will involve walking on tracks for most of the day and returning to the Southern Winds in the afternoon to overnight.
