Description
This is a charity auction for Niue Tourism and the NiueKulele – The Ukulele Festival of Niue, with all proceeds going towards Niue Primary and Secondary Schools, for ukuleles and music lessons.
This ukulele has been signed by Jacinda Ardern, Prime Minister of New Zealand. Jacinda has strong ties to Niue, with her father Ross Ardern, currently the High Commissioner of New Zealand to Niue. She visits Niue this week as part of a Pacific Mission of ministers and Pasifika leaders. Jacinda describes Niue as “an undiscovered gem, so different to anywhere else in the Pacific”.
Niue Island is a large upraised coral atoll in the South Pacific, a 3.5 hour flight from New Zealand, and is an international whale sanctuary. It provides visitors with spectacular snorkelling, diving, fishing, forest walks and sandy coves. The island has a resident Niuean population of around 1200 people and is a self-governing nation aligned closely with NZ, with its own Parliament and Premier. There are around 25,000 Niueans currently living in New Zealand.
The NiueKulele music festival runs 16 – 20 March 2018 in Niue and is a biennial event, with ukulele workshops, concerts and instructional sessions. Guest artists come to NiueKulele from around the world including Hawaiian rising superstars Honoka & Azita and Australian blues sensation Ryo Montgomery.
Check out our other listings for more ukuleles decorated and signed by other well-known figures including John Pule, Sir Graham Henry, Clarke Gayford and Tommy Nee.
