Description
This is an auction for a very scarce Royal Doulton seriesware item.
It is a babyplate in the Nursery Rhymes series D5187, featuring designs by the artist William Savage Cooper (1863-1943).
This series was introduced in 1903 and had been withdrawn by 1939.
Louise Irvine notes in her bookson the Doulton serieswares (see Volume Three) that "This series was ordered by Queen Alexandra (Edward VII's consort) for use by her grandchildren".
This is scene #11: "Where are you going to my pretty maid?"
This plate is 15.5cms (just over 6") in diameter.
It is in very good condition. There are of course no chips, cracks or repairs/restorations.
The cost of shipping is $8.95. If you are on rural delivery the shipping cost will be $11.95.
There is of course no charge for shipping if you collect this plate from my shop in Palmerston North following the auction.
