As the Cafe Manager, you will be responsible for the daily operations, ensuring a seamless customer experience, managing staff, overseeing inventory and financials, and maintaining our high standards. You may be working with other staff or independently, taking full responsibility for delivering exceptional products and service.

This is a permanent full-time position for 32 hours per week.

Shifts will be Wednesday – Saturday from 7am to 3pm.

The pay for this position is $25.00 per hour.

Key Tasks, Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Oversee menu planning and development, particularly for our core offerings of juices, smoothies, soups, and coffee, while creating new recipes and setting menus.
  • Plan, organise, and execute special functions or catering requests as needed.
  • Manage the purchasing of all goods, ensuring cost-effectiveness and adherence to budget, including negotiating with suppliers and setting pricing.
  • Maintain meticulous records of stock levels, inventory turnover, and daily/weekly financial transactions.
  • Ensure the cafe strictly complies with all New Zealand health and safety regulations (including Food Control Plan requirements), maintaining impeccable cleanliness, functionality, and an inviting appearance.
  • Actively engage with customers to gauge satisfaction, gather feedback, and resolve any issues promptly and professionally.
  • Lead the recruitment, selection, onboarding, training, and ongoing supervision of all waiting and kitchen staff.
  • Foster a positive, efficient, and customer-focused team environment.

Qualifications and Experience:
  • A formal qualification in Hospitality Management, Business Management, or a related field is desirable.
  • Alternatively, a minimum of two years of relevant management or supervisory experience in a cafe, restaurant, or similar fast-paced hospitality environment may substitute for formal qualifications.
  • In some instances, a combination of relevant experience and/or specific on-the-job training may be required in addition to, or in conjunction with, formal qualifications.
  • Proven experience in staff management, including training and supervision.
  • Strong understanding of inventory control, budgeting, and financial record-keeping.
  • Excellent knowledge of food safety, hygiene standards, and health regulations in New Zealand.
  • Exceptional customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure in a busy environment.
  • A hands-on leadership style.
