One of New Zealand’s great stadiums, initially opening in 1881 and named after Benjamin Lancaster the original owner of the site. The ground has been home to Canterbury Rugby and Cricket for over 100 years. It’s seen some great moments, from feats of daring like some of New Zealand’s earliest balloon flights by Captain Charles Lorraine in the late 1890’s to legendary victories by the All Blacks, Black Caps and Canterbury provincial teams.

Christchurch City Council agreed to deconstruct the damaged Lancaster Park stadium earlier this year. The aim is to salvage as much as possible The amount being charged for the seats covers the costs of removal.

Deconstruction is expected to take 12-14 months.
