Spitfire: Britain's Finest Hour tells the story of this iconic aircraft of World War II. IT shows how this famous fighter plane had its origins in a series of trophy-winning seaplanes from the 1920s and 1930s, and explains how the plane itself was designed and developed. The designer, R.J. Mitchell, did not live to see his machine's many victories in the Battle of Britain, but he did have the foresight to predict how the German aircraft that would be sent against it could be beaten.

Spitfire covers the production of the aircraft and the numerous modifications and improvements made throughout its lifetime, and compares it to the other great fighters - both Axis and Allied - in the skies at the time. Spitfire also goes into the heart of the action, showing what it was like to fly a Spitfire in the Battle of Britain, and lists where surviving planes can be seen today.
