Farming and lifestyle-block planting projects.

Native plantings for: erosion control, effluent fields, riparian reserves, revegetation, shelter-belts, wetlands & wildfowl habitats.
Farm Wetlands and Swamps.

Absorbing and retaining water in flood events and enabling slow release as levels subside is possible, if even on a small scale on your own patch of farmland and sometimes even on your 2 h/a lifestyle block!

Preserve water for the hidden inhabitants of our many small wetlands. Start by recreating the conditions required for natural, perpetual regeneration of native plants, birdlife and freshwater fish. This may entail some fencing to keep livestock out of the area and also may require a bit of light earthworks to shape the contour of your land to cater for the purpose.

We also often have lines of natives and shelter-belt plants available, as surplus stock. Ring and check with me if you're looking, particularly if you're from the regions mentioned above. We collect seed from the watershed of the Ruahine and Tararua ranges. We have also enhanced native preservation projects for DOC at Mahia, Taumarunui and south Wairarapa.

Farm & L-style block shelter using exotic species also.
Natives or exotic species for tough rugged, primary shelter which remain disease-free and are easy to manage. Every situation has its own peculiar requirements and has a particular species which will match the need. We can help you make the right decision.

Manuka plants grown for honey.
Seed from high-reactive genetics. Competitive per h/a rates for supply, planting and project management.
We can provide other species producing nectar and pollen for bees and native birds throughout the winter months, April to November.

We've used Land And Habitat Consultancy over several years to establish a diverse range native riparian plantings, wetland ponds and shelterbelts on our Dairy Farm. Ray has many years of plant nursery experience and a wealth of knowledge in establishing healthy plants. If you are like us and wondering how to get started with a farm riparian plan, then we have no hesitation in recommending talking to Ray for advice, planning and planting.

I used Ray to help me with my farm wetland project. Throughout the whole process Ray was very helpful and informative. He has a wealth of knowledge and experience and I could rest easy knowing that I had an expert giving me advice on plant selection and planting methods to increase survivability. I would highly recommend speaking to Ray if you are contemplating any sort of planting project.

The service was very personal. I dealt with Ray Richards who visited the site of my project. He listened and give concise explanation of how to carry out my project. He suggested various options and was transparent and fair regarding costings and these represented excellent value for money. Ray kept me updated with developments and was always available to discuss any matters. He was flexible with any changes I requested. Environmental Plantings is wholly recommended.
