Groundwork & Cultivation Supervisor

We are passionate about producing fresh food for a healthier world and are looking for a motivated Groundwork & Cultivation Supervisor to join our Gisborne operations team.

About the Role Reporting to the Groundwork Manager, you will play a key leadership role in delivering safe, efficient, and high-quality groundwork, cultivation, and block preparation activities. Working closely with production, agronomy, irrigation, planting, and engineering teams, you will help ensure land is prepared to the highest standard for successful crop establishment. This is a hands-on position where you'll lead daily field operations, coordinate people and machinery, monitor work quality, and support continuous improvement across the operation. Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise daily cultivation, groundwork, and block preparation activities
  • Lead and support tractor operators, groundwork operators, and seasonal staff
  • Coordinate labour, machinery, and equipment to meet operational plans
  • Monitor soil preparation, bed quality, drainage, and block readiness
  • Promote and maintain high standards of health, safety, and environmental compliance
  • Support machinery maintenance and report equipment issues promptly
  • Communicate progress, challenges, and operational requirements with key stakeholders

About You

  • Experience in agriculture, horticulture, cultivation, or field operations
  • Strong knowledge of soil preparation, cultivation practices, and machinery operation
  • Proven leadership ability with a hands-on approach
  • Excellent communication, organisational, and problem-solving skills
  • Able to work effectively in changing weather and seasonal conditions
  • Committed to safety, quality, and continuous improvement
  • Forklift, WTR, Class 1 or Class 2 licences are advantageous
