DSH Contracting is a contracting business operating in Christchurch commercial and civil construction markets. Specialising in foundation excavations, piling, demolition, retaining walls, civil construction and transport; we pride ourselves on our excellent customer service, positive company culture and ability to deliver practical construction solutions to a range of valued clients.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for experienced Excavator Operators and class 4/5 drivers to join our Christchurch team. Reporting directly to the Operations Manager you will operate excavators and associated machinery to complete a range of excavation, demolition and civil construction works.

The job involves

Operating machines between 1.5 ton and 20 ton. Completing foundation excavations and backfills, augering, trenching, demolition, retaining wall excavation and hard landscaping prep (driveways, carparks, paths). Reading detailed construction plans and working to them. Working to grade, including finishing to fine tolerances on cut/ fill. Operating a laser, plate compactor and roller. Working unsupervised and supporting the development of lesser skilled employees. Labouring as required to progress site works. Leading role in meeting on site health and safety requirements. Completion of time sheets. Recording job specifics and taking initiative where needed. The requirements

Experience operating a range of heavy machinery/ mobile plant. Experience in both large scale and precision excavation work, including the ability to work to fine tolerances of cut/ fill. An advanced understanding of ground preparation involved in excavations. Sharp operating skills, maintaining efficiency, safety and site tidiness. A current and full class 1 driving license, with a WTR endorsement or similar. Class 4/5 license would be an advantage. Must be able to drive a manual vehicle. Experience in completing and leading on site health and safety processes. Reliable and committed to being at work on time and ready for the day. Excellent communication skills. The ability to motivate and encourage less experienced team members. Ability to pass a drug test. The position provides at least 40 hours a week and is well remunerated and with a company that will support and develop your career.
