Quarry Manager

CMT Group is looking for an experienced Quarry Manager to take ownership of our Blenheim quarry operations. This is a key leadership role where you’ll drive production, safety, and performance while supporting our wider civil projects across the region.

About the role As Quarry Manager, you will oversee all aspects of quarry operations — from extraction and crushing through to planning, maintenance, and team leadership. You’ll play a critical role in ensuring our operations run safely, efficiently, and in line with NZ regulations and company standards. This is a hands-on leadership role, ideal for someone who enjoys being both on the ground and leading a small, capable team.

What you’ll be responsible for

• Leading and supervising a small quarry team (2–3 staff)
• Managing daily and weekly production targets
• Overseeing extraction, crushing, and screening operations
• Planning and scheduling work to meet project demands
• Driving a strong health & safety culture and ensuring compliance with WorkSafe NZ requirements
• Monitoring environmental impacts and ensuring best practice
• Coordinating plant maintenance and repairs
• Liaising with management on performance, planning, and improvements

What we’re looking for Essential:

• B-Grade Quarry Manager Certificate of Competence
• Solid experience in quarry operations (extraction, crushing, screening)
• Strong leadership and team supervision experience
• Good working knowledge of NZ health, safety, and environmental legislation
• Class 2 licence (clean) with WTR endorsements
• Mechanical aptitude — able to identify issues and carry out basic repairs Also important:
• Strong planning and organisational skills
• Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
• Clear communication and a proactive approach to problem-solving
