Description
We’re looking for a passionate, nurturing kaiako to join our Ngā Mokai (0–2) team — working with our pēpi in a calm, responsive and well-supported environment.
Ko wai mātou | About us
Te Whare Whitinga o te Rā is a kaupapa Māori Puna based on the beautiful whenua of Ngā Mokai, guided by our local curriculum Te Roro o te Rangi and Te Whāriki.
This is a place where culture is lived, not just talked about — where tamariki are connected to whenua, whakapapa and identity from the very beginning.
We are a 75-licenced centre across three rooms (Ngā Mokai, Tuteniu, Uenukukopako), with a strong focus on tikanga Māori, whakawhanaungatanga and manaakitanga. We are continuing to grow and strengthen our practice, and we’re looking for kaiako who want to be part of that journey.
About the role:
This is a Kaiako position within our Ngā Mokai room, working alongside a supportive team to provide calm, responsive and nurturing care for our pēpi.
You’ll be part of a space that values:
- Calm, respectful and responsive care for pēpi
- Strong relationships with tamariki and whānau
- Intentional teaching grounded in our local curriculum Te Roro o te Rangi and Te Whāriki
- A well-run, organised and supportive environment
You’ll be part of a team that works closely together — supporting tamariki, contributing to planning, and maintaining a well-run, safe and organised environment, grounded in the values of Te Roro o te Rangi.
What we’re looking for:
- We’re after someone who is warm, reliable and brings good energy into the room. Someone who is proactive and has experience working with tamariki under the age of 2.
- Hold an ECE qualification and current NZ teacher registration (provisional or full)
- Have a good understanding of infant and toddler development
- Be nurturing, calm and responsive with tamariki
- Build strong relationships with whānau and your team
- Be a team player who can use initiative and actively problem solve among the team
- Contribute to planning, documentation and reflective practice
- Maintain strong professional standards and reliability
- Be open to, or growing in, te reo Māori me ōna tikanga
- Experience with Storypark and Canva is helpful but not essential.
What we offer:
We value our team and aim to create an environment where you feel supported to do your job well and love coming into our whare everyday!
- Full Pay Parity
- Discounted childcare
- Paid teacher registration
- First Aid certification and uniform provided
- Ongoing mentoring and professional development
- Strong ratios and a well-resourced environment
- Supportive leadership and team culture
Full-time (32–40 hours), Monday to Friday between 7:45am – 4:15pm
To apply:
If you’re passionate about working with pēpi and want to be part of a Puna that is grounded in kaupapa Māori and genuinely values its people — we’d love to hear from you.
