Description

Immerse yourself in a world of endless possibilities, where our tamariki explore the wonders of their community through captivating stories, engaging visitors, and exciting adventures. Imagination thrives, friendships blossom, and every day brings new discoveries.

BestStart Hanley's Farm is looking for a caring, energetic Caregiver to join our close‑knit team. Our centre is grounded in the belief that every child deserves high‑quality education, nurturing relationships, and a place where they truly belong.

Nestled at the foot of the Remarkables (Kawarau) Mountains, our centre draws inspiration from the whakataukī: Whaia te iti kahurangi ki te tūohu koe me he maunga teitei — Seek the treasure you value most dearly; if you bow your head, let it be to a lofty mountain. These mountains symbolise our strength, our sense of place, and our commitment to helping tamariki rise to their full potential.

Our diverse team brings together many cultures, perspectives, and experiences. This richness shapes an inclusive environment where children, families, and Kaiako feel seen, valued, and supported. We welcome children aged 3 months to 5 years and take pride in offering a nurturing, inspiring space where curiosity thrives and learning comes alive.

Why BestStart?

We're committed to being a progressive, adaptable leader in ECE—one that recognises and celebrates the impact our teachers and caregivers make every day.

You'll enjoy:

  • Learning opportunities through our Whare Ako online platform
  • Career development support
  • $2000 for referring a qualified teacher*
  • Discounted childcare
  • Subsidised health insurance*
  • Free annual flu vaccinations
  • EAP counselling
  • A wellbeing programme
  • Sick leave from day one
  • An extra week of leave after 10 years of service

About the Role

As a Caregiver, you'll help create a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment where tamariki feel confident to explore, learn, and grow. In this role, you'll be working closely with our 3‑ and 4‑year‑old learners, supporting their social, emotional, and cognitive development during one of the most exciting stages of early childhood.

Our teachers spark curiosity by discussing upcoming extraordinary events, such as local excursions, empowering tamariki to anticipate and embrace new experiences with confidence. A strong sense of belonging is nurtured as children share stories from home, celebrate milestones, and actively shape their learning journey. Their voices matter, and we honour their growing independence by encouraging ownership and empowerment in daily decision‑making.

You'll collaborate with our Centre Manager and teaching team to support high‑quality care and education across the centre.

What You'll Do

  • Build warm, responsive relationships with tamariki
  • Support learning through play, exploration, and meaningful interactions
  • Participate fully in centre routines and activities
  • Help maintain a positive, collaborative team culture
  • Communicate effectively with families and whānau
  • Contribute to observations and planning
  • Uphold our centre philosophy and values
  • Incorporate Te Reo Māori and tikanga into daily practice
  • Support centre operations wherever needed

This is a permanent, full‑time role (40 hours, Monday–Friday).

What You'll Bring

You don't need an ECE qualification, but you do need:

  • A natural connection with children, especially those aged 3–4
  • Experience working with children under five
  • Initiative, reliability, and a willingness to learn
  • A team‑focused mindset and the ability to follow direction

Ready to Join Us? Apply now and become part of a team that values growth, collaboration, and the joy of teaching. We can't wait to welcome you to BestStart Hanley's Farm.
