Description

BestStart Leeds Street is looking for a warm, passionate Caregiver to join our energetic and close-knit team. Nestled in the heart of Wellington City, we're proud to be urban explorers, often out and about discovering our local community. From regular visits to Te Papa to admiring the art scattered throughout the city, learning extends far beyond our centre walls.

We are especially passionate about providing responsive, nurturing care for our youngest tamariki, and we're excited to welcome someone who shares that same heart for infants and toddlers.

Why choose BestStart?

At BestStart, we're committed to being a progressive leader in early childhood education. Our people are recognised for the incredible difference they make in children's lives — and we make sure they feel supported every step of the way.

Our benefits include:

  • Ongoing learning through Whare Ako, our online learning platform
  • Support to grow your career and develop new skills
  • $2000 referral bonus for recommending a Qualified Teacher*
  • Discounted childcare
  • Subsidised health insurance*
  • Free annual flu vaccinations
  • Confidential counselling through EAP
  • Wellbeing programme to support your health
  • Sick leave from your first day
  • One week additional leave after 10 years of service

About the Role

As a Caregiver in our Infant and Toddler room, you'll play a meaningful role in supporting our youngest learners during these important early years. You'll help create a calm, loving, and stimulating environment where tamariki feel safe, secure, and ready to explore.

Working alongside our Centre Manager and a supportive team of Kaiako, you will:

  • Provide attentive, respectful care and education
  • Support daily routines with warmth and professionalism
  • Engage in meaningful play and learning experiences
  • Build strong, trusting relationships with tamariki and whānau
  • Contribute to a positive, collaborative team culture
  • Support centre activities and help across rooms when needed

This is a permanent position, working 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday.

Who we're looking for

You don't need an ECE qualification for this role — but you do need a genuine love for working with young children, especially under-twos.

We're looking for someone who is:

  • Passionate about early childhood care
  • Warm, patient, and responsive
  • Reliable, proactive, and a true team player
  • Confident building relationships with tamariki and whānau
  • Able to take direction and show initiative
  • Experienced working with children under five (essential)

At BestStart Leeds Street, relationships are at the heart of everything we do. If you're ready to be part of a centre that values teamwork, wellbeing, and child-led learning, we'd love to hear from you.

Apply now and join us in making a difference — one small explorer at a time.
