Role: Assistant to the Directors

Part-Time: 15–30 Hours Per Week | Wairarapa (or remote with flexibility)
We are seeking a highly capable and experienced Assistant to support the Directors of a progressive farming business and family trust. This role combines governance administration, processing documentation, and analytical support for strategic farm improvement and investment initiatives. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated professional with strong governance and financial analysis experience who enjoys working autonomously, managing diverse responsibilities, and contributing to long-term rural business success.
Aim: To provide governance, administrative, and analytical support to the Directors of a farming business and family trust, ensuring well-documented processes, effective oversight, and thoroughly researched strategic and investment decisions. Achieve tasks to a high ‘best industry practice’ in accordance with Neer’s Farm Excellence Standards & protocols, within budget, in coordination with the Managing Director and Other Directors while living Neer’s values.
Responsible to: NEER’s Managing Director and through the MD, other directors and trustees of NEER and Canea Location: NEER farms and office & on occasion other locations.
Key Responsibilities Governance & Administration
- Prepare, maintain, and file board papers, minutes, resolutions, registers, and compliance documentation.
- Coordinate governance calendars, meeting schedules, annual reviews, and reporting cycles.
- Maintain accurate records for both the farming company and trust entities.
- Track projects, action items, and deadlines, ensuring Directors are well-supported.
Process & Procedure Documentation
- Map, document, and regularly update key business processes, workflows, and standard operating procedures.
- Identify gaps, risks, or inefficiencies and propose improvements.
- Develop and maintain a centralized governance and operations manual.
Strategic & Investment Analysis
- Undertake research, financial modelling, and feasibility analysis for farm system improvements, property developments, and capital investment opportunities.
- Prepare concise investment papers and recommendations, supported by data and sound logic.
- Collaborate with farm managers, consultants, and external advisors to gather operational and financial information.
Business & Trust Support
- Assist with internal reporting, forecasting, and review of farm performance.
- Support compliance with trust requirements, including documentation and preparation for trustee decisions.
- Coordinate communications and information flow between Directors, managers, and advisors.
General Administration
- Provide high-quality administrative support across multiple entities.
- Manage confidential information with absolute discretion.
- Undertake special projects as directed by the Directors.
Person Specification Experience
- Significant experience in governance, board support, executive assistance, or organizational administration.
- Demonstrated capability in financial analysis, investment evaluation, or business case preparation.
- Experience in documenting systems, processes, or procedures.
- Exposure to rural businesses, agricultural operations, or asset-heavy industries (advantageous but not required).
Technical Skills
- Strong analytical and financial modelling skills.
- Excellent written communication, including report writing and documentation.
- High computer literacy, including Microsoft 365 (Excel, Word, Teams) and document management systems.
- Ability to understand and analyze operational and financial data.
